Overview
It is not uncommon for St. Joseph Hospital to receive hundreds of applications when there is a job opening at their hospital. However, managing those applications was very manual and costly. Scorpion Healthcare worked closely with St. Joseph Hospital to streamline their employment system, reducing labor costs and increasing the effectiveness with which positions could be filled.
The Business Challenge
With thousands of applicants to manage along with staffing needs constantly changing, the St. Joseph Hospital Human Resource team had its hands full trying to get jobs filled. Often jobs never made it to the website, or stayed up months past the time at which they were filled. This created more work for the staff that had to sift resumes for jobs not even available. Often, applicants would send in multiple versions of their resume for different positions, but such a scenario presented difficult tracking problems. Resumes were emailed, faxed, mailed and hand-delivered and often hundreds of man hours went into each hiring.
St. Joseph Hospital called on Scorpion Healthcare to build an online employment system that could automate and streamline this critical process.
System Requirements
- Administrative ability to add/edit/delete jobs.
- Ability to upload resumes online in only approved formats.
- Allow users to upload a single resume for multiple jobs.
- Allow users to create multiple versions of resumes and select appropriate version for each job.
- Give applicants a method for tracking which jobs had been applied for.
- Automated notifications and emails for both administrators and applicants.
- An integrated system for tracking contact attempts to applicants to ensure each applicant received the appropriate information and number of attempts required.
- A management console for tracking the workload and statistics of each HR representative.
The Solution
Using Microsoft's .NET platform, Scorpion Healthcare quickly developed a fully functioning employment system with much of the same functionality as familiar job boards such as Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com. This one, however, was internal and customized to their individual needs. Now, applicants and their resumes could be easily tracked in the system and workload for the staff was substantially reduced. St. Joseph Hospital noted large savings in both time and money required to hire new staff.
